A 35-year-old man, Yinka Offehin, is battling for his life at a private hospital in Lagos State after his scrotum was cut by the children of his landlady.

The Edo State indigene, who resides on Popoola Street, off Abaranje Road in the Ikotun area of Lagos, was said to have been attacked while sleeping in his room with his family members.
His wife, Bisi, who was with him when the incident happened, identified the assailants as Solomon and Damilola, the children of the landlady.

She said, “On Thursday morning, around 3am, while we were sleeping, we heard loud bangs on our door. We initially thought they were armed robbers because the house beside ours had recently been robbed.“When they entered, we saw they were children of our landlady. They began destroying our electronics and other property.
“There were two of them. One held a knife in his hand. They took N800, 000. They descended on my husband and he also fought back. In that confusion, my husband shouted and we saw that one of the attackers had cut Yinka’s scrotum. I can’t say what they used to cut off my husband’s scrotum.” She added that her husband, though in pain, was able to hold on to one of his attackers till dawn, while the other fled the scene.

10 year old girl found wearing explosive device apparatus in Katsina

 

A 10 year old girl strapped with an explosive belt was yesterday July 29th discovered by security forces in company of two other people, a man and an 18 year old girl, while traveling along a road in Katsina state.

The DG of the National Information Center, Mr Mike Omeri said this while briefing news men at the National Information Center;

"Security forces on Tuesday, July 29, at about 10pm along Zaria Road, Tudun Wada of Funtua Metropolis, arrested three suspects believed to be members of the Boko Haram sect. The three suspects consisted a male named Iliya Haliru, and two females – Zainab Musa, 18, and Hadiza Musa, 10. The three suspects were arrested in a Honda CRV. When they were directed to disembark for security check, 10-year-old Hadiza was discovered to have been strapped with an explosive belt. And immediately, Iliya and Zainab made attempt to escape with the car but were later blocked by other concerned Nigerians and subsequently arrested. The police successfully unstrapped the explosive.”

He appealed to parents to monitor their wards so they do not get initiated into such evil acts.

President Jonathan launches 64-Page e-passport

On Wednesday, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan launched and obtained the 64 page e-passport in Abuja. The existing e-passport is 32 page.

The Presidency reveals that the 64 page e-passport conforms with international best practices. It helps frequent travelers, it is gender friendly, and more cost effective for low income earners.

The cost for the passport which is strictly for frequent travelers, is N8,750. It has also been stated that this new passport in no way invalidates the 32 page passport.

A Christian man in Iran was sentenced to have his lips burnt with a cigarette for eating during the day in the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

The shocking punishment carried out in public in the city of Kermanshah after he received 70 lashes alongside five other Muslim men for not fasting during Ramadan.The punishment was confirmed by the city's deputy governor Ali Ashraf Karami.The National Council of Resistance of Iran, denounced the treatment as 'savage' and called on western countries to take action.

"The silence of the world community, especially of western countries, vis-à-vis these medieval punishments under the excuse of having nuclear talks with Iran has intensified the brutal and systematic violation of human rights in Iran."

6 days after downing passenger jet, rebels shoot down 2 Ukrainian military planes

 

Guess these rebels have no soul. They couldn't even give it time before they start shooting down planes again. Less than a week after shooting down a passenger jet carrying 298 people, pro-Russian rebels today Wednesday July 23rd shot down two Ukrainian military fighter jets close to the Russian border just 35km away from the Malaysian crash site.

A spokesman for Ukraine’s military operations said the planes were downed near Savur Mogila, a burial mound in the Shaktersky region, but didn't have any information about the pilots.

Second wedding for 9-year-old schoolboy and his 61-year-old wife

Why is it okay for a 61yr old woman to kiss a 9 yr old boy in the mouth all in the name of tradition?

A 9-year-old schoolboy has become one of the world's youngest grooms for the 2nd time, marrying his 62-year-old wife again. Looking a little taller in last year's silvery tuxedo, baby faced Saneie Masilela clutched the hand of Helen Shabangu as they repeated their vows one year on.

Last year the boy, from nearby Tshwane, tied the knot with bride Helen after claiming he had been told by his dead ancestors to wed. Shockingly his family took the message from the heavens seriously and hurriedly forked out £500 for the bride and a further £1,000 for the big day. 

The second marriage ceremony was this time held at the home of the blushing bride in Ximhungwe in Mpumalanga, South Africa, in front of around 100 guests. Wide-eyed residents looked on as the married mother-of-five shared a piece of cake, a toast and even a kiss with her young groom Sanele -  and long-term husband Alfred Shabangu, 66.

Nigerian transgender, Ms Iris Sahhara Henson won the World Transgender pageant, Eat Bulaga, which held in the Philippines last night. Sahhara wrote about her excitement at winning on Facebook.

"OMG! I won. I am still not sure it is a reality! Maybe I'll wake-up from this amazing dream in a minute! My arm is turning red from me constantly pinching myself to wakeup from this beautiful dream! Inside her recently released autobiography Mãe Coragem (which translates to ‘Mother Courage’) , mother of Critiano Ronaldo, Dolores Aveiro, claimed that she attempted to abort him when she was pregnant by 'drinking warm beer' and 'running until she dropped'

Although she did not give any reason for wanting to abort her unborn child, Dolores said she had approached her doctor to carry out the abortion but he didn't agree with it and refused to do it. She then resorted to doing it herself by drinking warm beer and running with the hope that she would lose the pregnancy. 

"I wanted to abort but the doctor didn’t support my decision,” she wrote in her autobiography.

Meet the family that missed Flight17 by minutes+chilling audio from rebels after they shot down plane

 

Barry and Izzy Sim (pictured above) were planning to travel to Kuala Lumpur with their young baby on Flight MH17 but were told by staff at Amsterdam's Schiphol airport that the plane was too full. The family was then given seats on a later KLM flight, just hours before the plane was shot down.

"You get this sick feeling in the pit of your stomach... We started getting butterflies. Your heartbeat starts going.' Barry Sim said of his reaction after he heard the plane he desperately wanted to board was shot down.

His wife said; 'There must have been someone watching over us and saying "you must not get on that flight".' The couple later cancelled their flight with KLM after the women refused to fly. 

Meanwhile U.S intelligence has confirmed that the plane was shot down by pro-Russian separatists who mistook the jetliner for a Ukraine military plane. And it is a Russian-made weapon.

#MH17: 298 killed as Malaysia Airlines passenger jet shot down over Ukraine

A Malaysian passenger airliner with 298 people on board has reportedly crashed in eastern Ukraine.The Interfax news agency quoting an aviation industry source said the Boeing-777 plane was flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur when it was shot down over the Donetsk region, which has been the theatre of recent fighting between the Ukrainian military and pro-Russian separatist rebels. The zone where the plane crashed is said to be controlled by rebels.

The agency says the airliner was shot down at an altitude of 10,000 metres. This information has not been confirmed.Interfax quotes a Ukrainian interior ministry official as saying that the passenger jet was shot down by a Buk ground-to-air missile.The airline has confirmed that all 283 passengers and 15 crew had been killed.

Nigeria rises from 44 to 34th on FIFA ranking after World Cup outing

 

The Super Eagles have risen up 10 places from 44 to 34 in a new FIFA World Ranking released today July 17th.

FIFA released the new list based on countries performance at the just concluded World Cup in Brazil. Nigeria went up 10 spots courtesy of the Super Eagles' second round finish at the World Cup.

The Super Eagles now rank third place in the African continent after Algeria and Cote d'Ivoire who came 24th and 25th respectively on the World list.


World champions Germany was ranked number one on the list while Argentina was placed second and Netherlands 3rd. Colombia came 4th, Belgium 5th, Uruguay 6th, Brazil 7th, Spain 8th, Switzerland 9th and France 10th. Continue to see Africa ranking here...

German abducted by unknown gunmen in Adamawa, Nigeria this morning

A German national simply identified as Mr Fisch has been abducted by gunmen in Gombi town in Adamawa state. According to Premium Times, Mr Fisch, who runs a free of charge technical school in Adamawa state was said to be on his way to work when he was abducted around 7am this morning around the Anguwan Faransa area of the town. A resident of the area said the gunmen laid a siege on the man's house and accosted him as he came out of his house to enter his car 

"The abductors laid siege on his house, and they came on motorcycles. As soon as the man came out and was about to get into his car, two persons on foot approached him and pointed a gun at him. They now called the two sets on motorcycles who approached them and they carried him away on their motorcycle. Almost everybody in this town knows him because he helps us a lot, especially in the area of repairing the town’s water bore holes. Most of the time he uses his own money to buy equipment and repair our boreholes,” he added.

When contacted, the German Embassy said they are yet to receive any report of any of their citizens being abducted but would immediately look into it
